Curriculum

Jonas Bloch Thorlund (JBT) is employed as an Associate Professor in the Research Unit for Musculoskeletal Function and Physiotherapy. He has a background in Sports Science and Health (MSc) from the University of Southern Denmark and in October 2011 he defended his PhD-thesis entitled ”Neuromuscular Function in Meniscectomized Patients”.

The main research focus for JBT is focused on how patients with knee injuries should be treated to prevent or postpone the development of knee osteoarthritis (OA). In particular JBT is continuing his focus from his PhD on the neuromechanical function and treatment of patients with meniscus injuries, as this is a subgroup of patients with particular high risk of knee OA.

JBT is the principal investigator (PI) of two ongoing studies:
- Odense Meniscectomy Study on Knee Joint Load – OMSoK: investigating the effect of meniscectomy on knee joint loading.
(Funded by an individual post-doc grant from the Danish Medical Research Council, The Danish Rheumatism Association and IMK Almene Fond)
- Knee Arthroscopy Cohort Southern Denmark – KACS: investigating the natural time course of patient perceived pain and function after meniscectomy with particular focus on the dependence of the different types of meniscus tears.
(Funded by an individual post-doc grant from the Danish Medical Research Council and The Region of Southern Denmark)
