Teaching Portfolio 2017

1. 1. University Courses

1. 1. 1. University of Southern Denmark 2007-2017

This period selected because the Blackboard system has been in function since 2007 and kept track of courses offered. There is no written records of the university courses offered from 1995 (when I took office as assistant professor) to 2007.

Each semester has 13 weeks, and each week two lectures. Normal work load is 3 courses per semester. Due to his many tasks, 'paid' by way of a reduction in teaching load, as respectively Head of Institute and Head of Department, Jensen has lectured somewhat less than normally for some years and recently even less.

* course taught only by Tim Jensen; ** course taught with Philosopher, Prof. Lars Binderup, SDU; and Prof. Kristine Kjærsgaard *** course taught with inter alia Philosopher, Prof. Lars Binderup, SDU, Prof. Kristine Kjærsgaard, and Human Rights Scholar Eva Maria Lassen, Danish Institute of Human Rights. PS: In Denmark there is no distinction between e.g. 'Vorlesung' and 'Seminar''

1.4. Other Lectures, Courses Taught and Courses Constructed

Tim Jensen has been lecturing and teaching about religion (and culture) at almost every possible level and for almost everybody in Denmark who, over the past 30 years, has had an interest in being taught about religion, be it the majority religion or minority religions, inter alia Islam.
He has done so when teaching religion education in the Upper-Secondary School (1981-1995), when being assistant and then associate porofessor at SDU, and he has done so as Director of a privately owned consultancy (DACOREC) which he established and ran with colleagues Mikael Rothstein and Jørgen Podemann Sørensen in 1988.
He has thus e.g. tailored courses and taught courses for the educational unit of the Danish Prison and Probation Service, for several units under the Danish Police Force, for hospitals (doctors and nurses), at educational institutions for school teachers, nurses, social workers, etc etc.
Documentation of some of the more recent of these many teaching activities can be found at the University of Denmark website for Tim Jensen, and some of the earlier activities are minutesly documented in the Yearbooks of the University of Odense and Southern Denmark. In 2002 these Yearbooks were published in a digital form., As of 2008 they were no longer produced nor published. For the Yearbooks 1999- 2008, see http://www.sdu.dk/om_sdu/dokumentation_tal/aarsberetning

1.5. University Examinator, External Examinator, Supervision (BA, Master, Ph.D. et al)

Tim Jensen has been internal examinator to all courses mentioned, be it oral exams with an internal or external examinator (in Denmark, at SDU), or written exams (home assignments, free or bound) with or without an internal or external examinator. He has been external examinator also for decades, appointed member of several national 'corps' of external examinators.

He has supervised students writing home assignments, be it at the University of Southern Denmark, DPU/Aarhus or Leibniz University, and he has supervised quite a few students in regard to their BA-projects, their Master theses, and other exams, e.g. the exam testing the students applying their philological competencies to the analyses of study-of-religions primary sources.

He has supervised two Ph.D. students (the Study of Religions department has hosted some 5 Ph.D. students over the past 18 years) most recently now Ph.D. Karna Kjeldsen (2013-2016).

1. 6. Creation, Building and Maintenance of Study Programs and Courses

As it is evident from the above information as well as from his general CV (and the attachement regarding 'adjunktpædagogikum'), then Tim Jensen has decades of experience not just in teaching at the university level as well as almost any other possible level or platform (with the exception of e-learning and long-distance learning). But he also has decades of experience with putting together conference programs, seminars and - not least - full study programs and annual courses within the academic study of religion, especially, but not only, at SDU where he has served as head of institute (2001-2004),and, in two periods (1999-2007, and 2011- ), as head od department/study program, for the Study of Religions.
He has thus been primus motor in the drafting of several study programs ('studieordninger'), and he has been the one to put together courses the one semester after the other. At SDU he has, furthermore, for SDUE developed and run several in-service training courses, e.g. for nurses.
