Research interests:
Socio-economic studies and descriptive economics in the field of fisheries sector management and development has been the main focus of my research. The management of aquaculture has been a longstanding field of research, which among others have led to work within ICES working group on “Mariculture and the Environment” and the project “Land Ocean Interaction in the Coastal Zone”, as member of the steering committee. Advisory committee participation for FAO and the EU Commission on Aquaculture research needs. I have been invited (2010-11) and joined the European Aquaculture Technology & Innovation platform as part of TA8: socioeconomic and management to participate in developing the European Strategic Research Agenda for this area.
I hold a core competency in international market surveys of fish – especially the quality, food safety and eco-labelling. This has over the years been in demand from several international organisations (World Bank, NORAD, DANIDA, FAO and several International Consultancy Companies).
Valuation of non-market goods has been applied in several research projects, especially a Nordic survey of recreational fishery. Participated internationally on recreational Fisheries Issues within the European Inland Fisheries Advisory Committee as Danish delegate (EIFAC Code of Practices for Recreational Fishery, EIFAC Occational Paper No 42, FAO 2008, and “Methodologies for assessing social and economic benefits of European inland recreational fisheries”, EIFAC Occasional Paper, 2010).
2010-2012 I have focused on solving the research needs and implementation of the Marine Strategy Framework Directive implementation in two external projects: KnowSeas (an EU-project) and a subcontract together with COWI consult given by the Directorate of Nature (Naturstyrelsen).
At present contributing to the science – policy interphase stipulated in IPBES.
